There were plans to make changes in Yas Marina, to promote better racing and to make the track more enjoyable. Turns 5 - 7 would receive modifications. Instead of having to have additional turns, they ought to change it to one big hairpin. The chicanes of Turns 11 - 14, would entirely be replaced with another hairpin. And Turns 16 - 20, would also be modified to be smoother and less sharper.

2021 Abu Dhabi Showdown (Motor Sport Magazine)

The 2021 Abu Dhabi GP, would go down as one of the most controversial and dramatic races in the history of Formula One. It was the final chapter of an intense rivalry. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, were both tied with 369.5 points in the championship standings. And the Abu Dhabi GP, would be the last race to determine the World Championship. During the final race of the season, Hamilton managed to take the lead of the GP, and it looked like he was going to win the race. But then, the safety car was pulled out, due to the crash of Nicholas Latifi on lap 53. All cars were behind the safety car. But then, Michael Masi made the decision to let lapped cars to overtake the safety car. This was absolutely controversial, and everyone knew that wasn't in the rule book at all. But the order has been addressed, and so Verstappen would end up behind his title rival. There was time for a last lap showdown between the two drivers. So on lap 58 of 58, the Abu Dhabi Showdown began. Verstappen immediately started to chase down Hamilton and with the help of slipstream, Verstappen managed to overtake his rival at the hairpin of turn 5. Hamilton tried to catch up to Verstappen, but Verstappen had defended well from Hamilton, and managed to stay in the lead and win his first ever Formula One World Championship. This was an amazing moment for Verstappen as he thought he had lost hope during the opening stages of the Grand Prix. But at the end, he finally won his first World Title, which devastated Hamilton at the end.

After the Abu Dhabi GP, FIA race director Miachel Masi, was immediately removed from his position, after his controversial decision during the Abu Dhabi GP. Masi has been replaced by Niels Wittich, which is still the race director till this day. This particular was one of the most dramatic races in the entire history of Formula One. The final lap showdown will forever be remembered by all fans and critics. The Abu Dhabi GP, was one of the more questionable tracks in terms of layout and design according to fans, now has captured one of the greatest rivalry endings in the sport. Today, Abu Dhabi is still the title decider in Formula One. Recently, the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP, was one of the emotional races too. Lewis Hamilton would be leaving Mercedes, after a great long run with the team. Zhou Guanyu, the only Chinese driver on the grid, would be departing in Formula One. An unfortunate ending for Sergio Perez, as he'll be leaving Red Bull despite a two year contract. And Carlos Sainz, would be leaving Ferrari to join Williams. Abu Dhabi, would still be loved by the fans, and would always be a part of the Formula One family.
